Professional Success: A Visualization
I didn’t always have a clear picture of what I wanted, or what success looked like for my life.
Early in my entrepreneurial journey, I came across a simple but powerful exercise in Martha Beck’s Finding Your Own North Star. The instructions? Sit in silence for 20 minutes and visualize your ideal life—no pressure, no “goal setting,” just see what emerges.
I was skeptical. At the time, I wasn’t even sure I could sit still for 20 minutes, much less conjure up a clear life vision.
But around the 10-minute mark, a scene began to take shape in my mind:
A home nestled in the mountains. A quiet lake. A wraparound deck.
It was beautiful, yes—but it wasn’t just a dream house. It was a center. A place where I could coach, write, think, host deep conversations. A space where my physical environment supported the mission behind my work.
It was the first time I could feel what aligned success looked like for me. That vision became a kind of anchor, one I return to again and again.
I now call that vision Hustle to Wholeness™.
It’s not about escaping work. It’s about redefining what we’re working toward.
It’s about building a life—and a business—that makes space for your best self to show up.
If you’ve never tried it, I encourage you:
Give yourself 15 minutes. No music. No prompts. No expectations.
Just a little space to see what your future might want to show you.
And if you do see something, I’d love to hear about it.
(P.S. There’s a little tech trick I use to keep this vision front and center every day. Stay tuned—I’ll share it in a future post.)
